What to Expect From Primary Residential Treatment

If you’re considering Orange County rehab, and you think that you or a loved one may need primary residential treatment to make progress toward the goal of long term sobriety, it may put your mind at ease to learn what to expect. Long-term sobriety takes hard work, and it isn’t something you can make a quick adjustment for and call it completely solved. Primary residential treatment helps you or your loved one ease back into day-to-day life with new coping skills and habits.

Detox before Residential Placement

The primary residential placement program is for those who have already gone through the physical detox process in an Orange County rehab facility. The physical process is just the beginning, and it is not done in the residential setting.

Planned Days

Like any other habit you or a loved one might have, drug or alcohol addiction is most noticeable during sober periods when you have free time. As your treatment progresses, you’ll find ways to combat the cravings in your normal life, but first you have to redefine what your normal life is. Residential programs help you do just that.

Mornings and afternoons are filled with structured meetings, appointments, and other activities. This means that while you are actively learning new coping skills and working through some of the issues that led to addiction in the first place, you’re also keeping yourself occupied. You can expect the following activities:

  • Meditations: Here you can learn to clear your mind and calm your spirit, while absorbing some of the helpful and relatable information various books have to offer.
  • Educational periods: To beat your enemy, you need to know your enemy. As you learn about the details of addiction and the different chemicals and types of addiction, it becomes easier to see the path that led you to where you are.
  • Networking: If there is one thing worse than going through serious life changes like attempts to beat addiction, it’s the idea that you are doing it alone. You’ll attend classes and meetings while you exchange personal stories and reflect on ways that members of the group can help each other, and how you might create a solid support system once you leave residential Orange County rehab.

Occupied Evenings

At Yellowstone Recovery, the residential program involves houses, rather than commercial facilities. In each house, everyone has responsibilities and roles. During the evening, residents are expected to complete their chores and enjoy dinner as a household in a family atmosphere. Later, you can attend 12-step meetings and work on your individual progress. You can also relax and consider all of the elements of the day as you dream of a more pleasant future free of active addiction.

A primary residential program is meant to introduce you to a different type of lifestyle than you are used to. This is a step toward getting back into society with different habits and activities than those you previously had. It is also potentially the only chance you will have in your life to spend your days and nights reflecting on yourself and trying to define who you are, with that being your main responsibility.
