Cocaine Facts and Addiction

Cocaine Addiction and Facts

Cocaine addiction is a global epidemic. Cocaine addiction affects lives, relationships and the economy worldwide.

Cocaine is very addictive. It is a stimulant that is snorted, injected or smoked.  All three methods can lead to addiction. Crack is cocaine hydrochloride which has been neutralized with baking soda. This process forms a crystal that is smoked. Generally pure cocaine is snorted or injected. Its vaporization point is to high to easily allow smoking. Turning it into crack lowers this point by 100° C. This allows a simple lighter to vaporize the substance and produce a high.

In 2009 4.8 million Americans over age 12 had used cocaine in some form. Over 20% of them had used crack. A common myth is that cocaine is not addictive. It is said it lacks the physical withdraw commonly seen in those who come off alcohol or heroin. This is false. The withdrawal is just the opposite of the high. In this case that means the person will sleep. The withdrawals are not seen because the person sleeps during them.

Cocaine has powerful psychological addictive properties. If cocaine is not addictive ask yourself this “WHY CANT I STOP?”

Cocaine addiction and behavior spare no one. The aftermath can be seen throughout society. Cocaine does not discriminate. People of every age, sex, race and walk of life are affected.

Cocaine is often used with other drugs. These most often include alcohol, Valium and heroin. These are just some of the drugs used with cocaine.

Cocaine addiction like any other form of addiction causes devastating effects on the addicts life. Addicts are not the only ones to suffer due to their disease. Families, friendships, and jobs are destroyed. The individuals self-esteem and self-respect become virtually non-existent. It is not uncommon for some one addicted to cocaine to become lost in their addiction. Everything in their lives outside of the drug becomes secondary. The cocaine dependent person prefers it to all other activities.
