Significant Findings Found Related to Heroin Addiction

A recent study identified some of the most significant details when it comes to heroin addiction treatments such as those found at Yellowstone Recovery. Some of these details include major depression as being the number one mental illness associated with heroin addiction, and how the number of times in treatment centers leads to success in recovery.

Depression

It’s easy enough to understand why depression would be associated with heroin use, since it provides the perfect escape from a reality that may seem dismal and hopeless, the very hallmarks of depressive feelings. Sometimes running from those feeling is easier than fighting to avoid them, or facing them head on, which can seem downright impossible to the depressed person.

Treatment Centers

This study revealed that those who had been in treatment centers the fewest amount of times were the most successful when it comes to recovery from heroin addiction. This doesn’t mean that treatment doesn’t help heroin addiction. If anything, it reveals more about the quality of treatment and the desire to stay sober than anything else. It stands to reason that the better the quality of treatment and the stronger the desire to stay sober, the more effective the treatment and sobriety efforts will be.

Rehab Centers

Outpatient treatment is very different than inpatient rehab centers, because the person in outpatient treatment still has to deal with the daily pressures of their environment when their environment provides a sort of comfort zone, even if it isn’t a healthy one. Orange County drug treatment centers that use inpatient programs are more effective because the person is introduced to a new environment, even though it’s temporary. In some cases, patients were never before exposed to things like routine, daily meals, and most certainly were not usually in a situation where their priority is to focus on themselves, and their goals and health.

Being removed from the environment is an effective solution, because all those little things that put stressors on people on a regular basis are removed. In treatment, they don’t have to worry about a place to stay, paying bills, or even making decisions about what they will do that day, because all of those things are already provided. For the addict, and especially an addict who faces major depression, this can relieve an enormous burden and allow them to see a whole other side of life.

Along with the relief of burden is the new information. Patients learn to live without drugs on a daily basis. While this takes them out of their comfort zone, it also provides them with the means to survive, even if they struggle to do it on a minute by minute basis. When there is a stressor that can seem overwhelming, they have people and resources to turn to, something many of them don’t have in the world outside of treatment.
